Body Language
Body language looks at characteristics of the human body and our use of them in non-verbal communication. The abstract nature of the works draws on the fact human body language is itself subtle and abstract. The expression of personal attraction, connection, and sexual desire is often expressed in subtle abstract gestures and inflexions. The intention is for the viewer to bring their own personal interpretation to the abstract nature of the artworks. Each piece means something different to the individual, each piece telling its own personal story, based on individual experiences and perspectives.
Some may view that the curves in the artworks imply femininity with more regular geometric shapes implying masculinity, whilst visual surface texture and colour provide the nuance of emotion, mood and intention. Body features like eyes, lips and exposed skin are all part of human body language, with lines and other shapes portraying energy and interpersonal dynamics.
The artist draws inspiration for the artworks from the work of Moholy-Nagy and Kandinsky not only in the composition of the artworks but also in the concept of using photography and technology as part of the creation process. In these artworks photography and digital manipulation and digital drawing form part of the creation process.
